If you're reading this, there's a very high chance you fall into one of three camps: you recently sent flowers, you recently received flowers, or you're simply the kind of person who really loves flowers - the highest calling, if you ask us ;)
And for all of you, here's the answer to one of the questions we get asked the most: does flower food actually work?
The myth-busting: yes, it really does. And no, if you lost the little packet that comes with your flowers, there's no need to make a run for the trash can. You can mix up your own at home with three pantry staples, plus about 90 seconds, give or take.
Whether you're saving or sharing, here's the recipe we still mix up at the farm when we run out of the commercial stuff:
1 quart lukewarm water (lukewarm helps everything dissolve faster).
2 tbsp citric acid — a.k.a. the juice of a lemon or lime (make it 3 tbsp if you're going with an orange).
1 tbsp regular granulated sugar.
¼ tbsp bleach — the part that keeps bacteria from moving in.
