Hey -,
Ed, the Parts Guy, here.
A good lighting setup inside and out makes driving safer and less stressful. As inspection season ramps up, now’s a good time to start checking your truck and thinking ahead to CVSA Brake Safety Week coming up August 23–29. While the focus is on brake systems, roadside inspections often put overall vehicle safety and visibility under the spotlight as well.
Exterior Marker Lights Keep You Legal
Clearance and marker lights are key to DOT compliance. Dim or flickering lights usually point to corroded connectors, loose wiring, or failing bulbs. Walk around your truck and trailer and check brake lights, turn signals, and marker lamps. Replace cracked lenses and clean any debris that could block light output. LEDs are a smart upgrade because they are brighter and more energy efficient.
Interior Lighting Reduces Fatigue
Spending long stretches behind the wheel can strain your eyes. Proper interior lighting reduces glare, makes gauges and controls easier to read, and can help prevent headaches and fatigue. LED dome lights are brighter and draw less power than halogen bulbs, improving visibility and battery life during overnight stays.
Check Your Connections
Many lighting issues stem from corroded plugs, frayed wires, or damaged harnesses. If a light goes out, inspect connectors before replacing the bulb. Cleaning contacts and applying dielectric grease can prevent future problems. Replace worn seven‑way plugs or harness sections to keep electricity flowing.
A few minutes spent checking lights makes every trip safer and more comfortable.
Safe travels,
