Good morning ,
A small friday treat to whoever is quickest, as we only have a handful of bottles.
We did an offer on Oxer before who's Basque and not Spanish (which those who have eaten their way around San Sebastian will know the difference!). The Kalamity is the top wine that he makes.
Massive WA scores from a producer that's going to be highly sought after in the future. The only other thing this highly rated by the WA in the last 5 years appears to be Palacios and Telmo Rodriguez Yjar so the wine is in good company when it comes to top Rioja.
99 Points - Wine Advocate - "There is subtleness and elegance here, with lots of complexity, and it's perfumed, elegant and harmonious. There are flowers, wild herbs and some spiciness, but it's all very harmonious. I think harmony is the word for this vintage. There are abundant fine-grained, silky tannins, and there is fine acidity. This should age for a very long time, as there is great balance and harmony between all its components"
Oxer Bastegieta is one of Rioja’s most exciting modern winemakers, producing vibrant, terroir-driven wines that challenge traditional expectations of the region. Based in Rioja Alavesa, the Basque-born producer works with old bush vines farmed organically and regeneratively across high-altitude vineyards. Through early picking, whole-bunch fermentations and gentle élevage in foudre, concrete and amphora, Oxer crafts wines of remarkable freshness, texture and energy with tiny production levels and rapidly growing demand.
Oxer Kalamity 2024 is a beautifully perfumed and finely balanced Rioja sourced from century-old vineyards across Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa. A field blend led by Tempranillo and Garnacha, the wine combines wild herbs, flowers and spice with silky tannins, bright acidity and remarkable freshness. Luis Gutiérrez awarded it 99 points, praising its harmony, elegance and extraordinary ageing potential.

99 Points | Wine Advocate, Luis Gutiérrez
The red 2024 Kalamity was produced in 2014 from a field blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Viura and Garnacha Blanca from very old vines in Elvillar, Laguardia and Camprovín harvested relatively early to avoid excess alcohol and to keep the acidity. The grapes were partly destemmed, partly crushed and partly fermented with full clusters in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and had two to three weeks of maceration. It matured in 600-liter oak barrels for 10 months. It has contained ripeness, 13.5%, and a balanced pH of 3.5. There is subtleness and elegance here, with lots of complexity, and it's perfumed, elegant and harmonious. There are flowers, wild herbs and some spiciness, but it's all very harmonious. I think harmony is the word for this vintage. There are abundant fine-grained, silky tannins, and there is fine acidity. This should age for a very long time, as there is great balance and harmony between all its components. 3,200 bottles were filled in September 2025.
