A lot of offers to unpack this week…
We thought Cos d’Estournel was going to be the big release of the week, but then Lafite Rothschild decided it was its turn to shine. Another extremely hot release from one of Bordeaux’s biggest names, and we now only have six bottles remaining as demand has been exceptionally strong. Carruades also released alongside it, although some of you may have missed it tucked underneath the Lafite offer.
Gruaud Larose 2025 was one of the real overperformers of the week, delivering huge scores at a sensible price.
The Barton family also continues its remarkable run of form. With the new winery and the move towards smaller, more precise vats, quality has clearly stepped up another level while pricing remains refreshingly fair. (A similar story is expected with Grand-Puy-Lacoste once it releases).
We were also really pleased to see Cos d’Estournel release at the same price as last year, despite the clear jump in quality. Credit to them for delivering not just a great wine, but also a genuinely fair release.
Our role as a wine merchant is to help filter the noise and focus on the Bordeaux releases that genuinely offer quality, value and long-term potential. If we think pricing works, we’ll say so. If we don’t, we’ll either negotiate something better or simply not offer the wine at all.
That was the case with both Angelus and Palmer this week, where we secured additional discounts exclusively for our mailing list customers. Full details can be found below.
Next week, there are no Bordeaux releases as the Chateaus are in Hong Kong presenting their wines.
Mouton will be the first release once they are back the following week, 3rd June.
The sun is shining, so enjoy some cold whites this weekend!

Lafite Rothschild 2025
98-100 Points - Neal Martin
Lafite Rothschild 2025 is shaping up to be one of the estate’s greatest modern vintages, earning huge 98-100 point scores from both Neal Martin and James Suckling. Critics praised its classical Pauillac character, graphite minerality, precision and remarkable balance. Remarkably, Neal Martin has only awarded perfect 100-point scores to two Lafite vintages in history, 1953 and 1870, placing the 2025 in exceptionally rare company.

Angelus 2025
96-98 Points - Wine Advocate
“A blend of equal parts Cabernet Franc and Merlot, the 2025 Angélus is already beautifully harmonious, even at this early stage. Unfurling in the glass with notes of sweet dark berries and plums mingled with notions of violets, licorice and spices, it's medium- to full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with ripe tannins, lively acids and a long, perfumed finish. Much like its 2022 predecessor, the 2025 underlines that this estate's shift toward greater purity and subtler élevage choices can be sustained even in historically warm years”

Alter Ego de Palmer 2025
94-96 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
“The 2025 Alter Ego is bold, juicy and super expressive right out of the gate. A wine of total pleasure and seduction, this will drink beautifully with minimal cellaring. Soft, plush contours wrap around a core of red plum, mocha, cedar, espresso and cinnamon. All the elements are so well balanced. Floral top notes and a kick of blood orange perk up the brilliant finish. This is such a classy, polished wine—an especially fine Alter Ego. The blend is 54% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot.”

Lascombes 2025
95-97 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
“Cassis, graphite, chalky minerality, and spicy wood all define the 2025 Château Lascombes, a much tighter, more focused expression compared to the second wine. A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot from tiny yields of 25 hectoliters per hectare, harvested between September 8th and 25th, it's resting in 60% new French oak with a small percentage in foudre and amphora. Beautifully concentrated on the palate, it has full-bodied richness, ample tannins, and a great finish. This checks in at 13.5% alcohol with a pH of 3.59, and the purity here is first rate.”
