Building a better railway for the North

TRU is making significant progress across the route, with major improvements already complete. New track, station upgrades and electrification are transforming the route, increasing capacity, improving accessibility and enabling greener journeys. Over 25% of the route is now electrified, rising to 40% by summer 2027, helping cut up to 108,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.

TRU has taken another step towards faster, more frequent and greener journeys across West Yorkshire and beyond, following the latest series of planned improvement works. Upgrades included track, station and structural improvements, alongside overhead line foundations to support future electrification.

Transforming stations across the route

Major station improvements continue across the route, with Batley and Dewsbury due for completion later this summer. Huddersfield will follow in early 2027, delivering a more accessible, modern station with improved facilities and customer experience.

Upcoming engineering works

Between Huddersfield, Leeds and York: Weekends between Saturday 8 August and Sunday 13 September

Weekend upgrade work will include installing new track and overhead line equipment, bringing the railway one step closer to delivering faster, more frequent and greener journeys.
