Dear friend, Eating just ONE serving of freshwater fish could expose you to as much PFOS – one of the most toxic “forever chemicals” – as a month of drinking highly contaminated water. After analyzing fish testing data collected by the EPA and the FDA, EWG researchers found widespread PFAS contamination in freshwater fish collected from rivers and streams across the U.S. And the findings were staggering. As renewed attention focuses on PFAS contamination in freshwater fish, EWG’s findings remain as alarming as ever. The median level of PFAS in freshwater fish was roughly 280 times higher than in store-bought fish. In fact, eating just one freshwater fish meal could equal the same PFAS exposure as eating store-bought fish every day for an entire year. For families who rely on fishing to put food on the table – and for communities whose cultural traditions depend on local fishing – the consequences of PFAS pollution are especially severe. This is a textbook case of environmental injustice. Here's why this matters: |

For decades, polluters have discharged PFAS into waterways with virtually no consequences. The EPA must set strict limits on industries discharging these toxic chemicals into rivers, lakes and streams – but communities downstream have already waited far too long. We're asking a small group of EWG supporters to weigh in before midnight tonight: |
