Recycled materials in a Framework Laptop
Each time we engaged a supplier for a module or mechanical part of the Framework Laptop, we started by asking what recycled alloys and resins they had familiarity with or could get supply of. We were able to test a range of different materials, working to maximize recycled content while keeping high mechanical strength and reliability. We landed on the following materials:
Top Cover (CNC): 30-35% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastics and 75% pre-consumer recycled aluminum,
Bottom Cover: 30-35% PCR plastics and 50% post-consumer recycled aluminum,
Input Cover: 30-35% PCR plastics and 50% post-consumer recycled aluminum,
Expansion Cards: 25-30% PCR PC/ABS plastic,
Keyboards: EcoTech Polymers PC455e (50% PCR PC/ABS),
Speaker: EcoTech Polymers FR701e (30% PCR PC/ABS),
Battery: LG Chem ER1008R (30% PCR PC),
Screwdriver: 100% PCR polycaprolactam (PA6) and 30% PCR fiberglass,
Bezels: Covestro FR3040 R35 or LG ER5001RFA and TPU (30-35% PCR plastic),
Power Adapter: LOTTO GC-1022U (20% PCR PC),
Packaging boxes: 80-90% recycled paper.
