Join GE community

A good first layer should look smooth, even, and slightly pressed into the bed. The lines should touch each other without gaps, but the nozzle should not scrape or leave rough marks.

If the filament looks loose or rounded, the nozzle is too high. If it looks too thin, rough, or dragged, the nozzle is too low.

Getting this right at the start is one of the simplest ways to prevent failed prints.
