Victoria here, Girlboss’ executive editor. 👋 |
When the team was digging into our website analytics last week, we noticed that our “manifesting your dream job” story was popping off. I first wrote this piece back when manifestation was having a major pop-culture moment—and clearly, it still is. I chatted with manifestation expert and bestselling author Roxie Nafousi about how to use manifestation to reach your highest potential. Spoiler: It’s not as “woo woo” as you might think. 😉🔮 |

Why Doomjobbing Is Making Your Job Search Harder |
You’ve heard of doomscrolling, but what about doomjobbing? 🤔 It’s a bad habit many of us are guilty of: endlessly scrolling on job boards, skimming the descriptions, and mass-applying to roles without giving it much thought (or effort). |
According to a recent report from job search platform Monster, 58% of job seekers apply to one to three jobs per session, while 42% apply to four or more jobs, with some submitting as many as 16 applications in one sitting. |
And get this: Nearly half of job seekers admit that they don’t read the entire job description when applying for positions, with 32% saying they spend less than a minute reviewing job postings. 😬 |
So, why do so many of us resort to doomjobbing in the first place? |
According to CTV News, it comes down to a few things: job-market anxiety, rising unemployment among Gen Z, who are struggling to land entry-level roles, AI tools making it way too easy to mass-apply, and something called the “confidence gap.” Basically, employers may be feeling optimistic, but job seekers are left confused about where they stand, what companies actually want, and how to stand out in a stack of resumes. |
More applications = more chances of getting hired, right? Wrong. |
“I see people say, ‘I’ve applied to 200 jobs and haven’t gotten an interview,’” Tega Edwin, a career coach and founder of Her Career Doctor, told Girlboss. “Ideally, you should be applying to 15 to 20 quality jobs and really tailor your application to those roles. Most people think it’s a numbers game, but the more you apply doesn’t mean the more chances you have of having an interview.” |
And if the LinkedIn “Easy Apply” button is your BFF, Edwin says it might be time to rethink that, too. |
“Don’t use LinkedIn’s Easy Apply button,” she says. “It’s a terrible way to job search, especially if your LinkedIn profile hasn’t already been tailored to the job you’re trying to apply for. You’re gonna get more rejections, and you’re wasting the recruiter’s time.” |
The bottom line? Doomjobbing might make you feel productive in the moment, but it can actually make your search harder. |
Stop panic-applying and start being strategic! Our How to Get Hired Guide covers every stage of the search, from polishing your resume to nailing the interview. And in our Ambition 2.0 episode with top recruiter Deepali Vyas, she breaks down what actually gets your resume noticed and the job-search mistakes to stop making immediately. |

🕶️ How many sunglasses are too many to have in your collection? The limit does not exist! QUAY’s doing 30% off sitewide, and we already have these ‘90s-style sunnies in our cart. |
💤 We've been sleeping on good pajamas for too long (see what we did there?). 😉 We've got our eye on this charming Vintage French Stripe matching set. It's made from buttery-soft 100% Peruvian Pima cotton, so you know you'll get a good night's sleep.* |
💙 Into the Blue by Emma Brodie has been all over #BookTok, and Content Marketing Manager Kamela is here to report that the hype 👏 is 👏 real. 👏 It was so unique and beautifully written, but also devastating and all-consuming in all the best ways! |
🦭 When it’s 86 degrees outside, Executive Editor Victoria’s go-to hairstyle is a slick-back (duh). This best-selling smoothing wand tames baby hairs and flyaways without any crunchiness or goopiness—and there’s even a tropical-scented version that smells like vacation. |
🪱 Kamela is hooked on these vegan gummies from Katjes. She tried the Rainbow Mix first and now needs to try them all. They’re sweet, tangy, gelatin-free, and dangerously good. Bonus: Jake Shane is the brand’s chief creative officer, which somehow makes total sense. |
