There’s Another Type of Gender Pay Gap (And It’s Invisible) |
We all know about the gender pay gap that affects women’s salaries. But did you know that there’s a bonus pay gap? 😲 |
Yup, there are invisible criteria that can determine who gets rewarded at work. |
A new study published in the International Economic Review identified what researchers are calling the “gender criteria gap.” In a series of experiments with about 600 participants, researchers found that male leaders were rewarded based on both their results and perceived intentions, while women leaders were judged mostly by results alone. |
In other words? If a man made a decision that didn’t lead to the best outcome, he could still receive a higher bonus if people believed he had acted in the group’s interest. But for women, those perceived intentions didn’t carry the same weight. |
So, let us get this straight. Men are given credit for effort, strategy, and perceived intent, while women are only rewarded when the outcome is successful. |
SCREAMS INTO THE ABYSS. |
While these barriers are very real (and very infuriating), understanding how compensation decisions actually get made—and how to advocate for your value strategically—can make a huge difference. |

It’s designed for smart women who feel underpaid, undervalued, or overlooked and want a bigger paycheck ASAP. Start negotiating smarter now. 💸 |
