Lara here, Girlboss’ contributing writer! 👋 |
This week, the Girlboss Slack channel has been popping OFF about Off Campus, the steamy new hockey romance series on Amazon Prime based on Elle Kennedy’s bestselling books. 🥵 Between that, Heated Rivalry, and the upcoming Every Year After series based on the Carley Fortune books, it’s official: romance is SO back, and we have #BookTok to thank. 🙂↕️ |
Today we’re diving into this fascinating phenomenon, plus all the upcoming #BookTok adaptations we’re looking forward to. |

The Lazy Girl’s Guide to Getting Into Gardening 🌷 |
It’s Victoria, Girlboss’ executive editor 👋, and I am proud to announce that I have officially entered my gardening era. Over the weekend, I planted a bunch of herbs and a tomato plant in my backyard, and I have more foliage planned for the front of the house. |
As a first-time pruner, I wish I hadn’t spent hours wandering up and down the aisles at the garden center and had just gone directly to Fast Growing Trees. 🌱 |
They deliver garden-center-quality plants straight to your door, with 1,600+ expertly grown varieties, from ready-to-plant veggies and herbs to Meyer Lemon Trees, and David Austin Roses. Plus, their plants are shipped in protective packaging and timed for your growing zone, with seven-day-a-week Plant Expert support if you need backup. |
Want to get your hands dirty? Just in time for Memorial Day weekend, Fast Growing Trees is offering an extra 25% off with code EXTRA25, plus up to 60% off sitewide. 👒 |

These #BookTok Adaptations Are Coming in Hot (Literally!) |
We are simply delighted to report that Off Campus has bewitched us, mind, body, and soul (emphasis on the body tho… 🥵). |
It’s just the latest book-to-screen adaptation from Prime Video, which is following up the immense success of The Summer I Turned Pretty with a one-two punch of Off Campus and Every Year After—both series based on books that went viral on TikTok, a.k.a. #BookTok. 🙂↕️ |
And they aren’t the only ones capitalizing on #BookTok: according to a recent report, nearly half of the original drama series that premiered on Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video in recent years were book adaptations. |
TL;DR? #BookTok is now shaping your TBR stack and your watchlist, and we absolutely love to see it. |
Without further ado, here is your comprehensive guide to upcoming #BookTok-to-screen adaptations: |
What to watch this summer: |
🏒 Off Campus (out now): How many times can we mention Off Campus in this newsletter? The limit does not exist! All eight episodes dropped last week, and the steamy college hockey romance series will certainly fill the Heated Rivalry void… if you know what we mean. 😈 |
🚤 Every Year After (June 10): Based on Carley Fortune’s best-selling novel Every Summer After, this second-chance romance is kiiiind of like a grown-up Canadian cottage country version of The Summer I Turned Pretty (complimentary). |
💗 Heartstopper Forever (July 17): We’re finally getting a finale to the Heartstopper series, and it’s in full-length feature form! According to Netflix, we’ll get to see Nick, Charlie, and many of their friends “take their relationships to a new level.” |
What to look forward to: |
💀 Verity (October 2): Colleen Hoover’s dark psychological romance thriller is hitting the big screen this fall, starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett. Talk about a stacked cast! |
🐉 Fourth Wing (TBD): Rebecca Yarros’ beloved high-stakes fantasy romance is currently in development at Prime Video, with Michael B. Jordan executive producing (as if we needed another reason to be obsessed with him). Apparently, he’s working closely with Yarros and the rest of the creative team to “bring the dragon-riding world to life.” 🥵 |
🏖️ Beach Read (TBD): Fans went berserk when it was announced that Patrick Schwarzenegger would be playing beloved character Augustus "Gus" Everett in this adaptation of Emily Henry’s best-selling novel (#NotMyGus was trending, lol). Regardless of how you feel about Schwarzenegger, we’re very curious to see if he can pull off the brooding, literary-genius vibe of Gus in the book. |
POLL: Which book-to-screen adaptation are you most excited about? |
