Just when we think we’ve got a handle on managing burnout, an agitating, grating new version pops up… 👹 Turns out, the new burnout isn’t caused by working too much — it’s caused by struggling to find meaning in your work. Today we’re unpacking how to identify it, and what to do about it. |

💼 Job of the day: The Wall Street Journal is looking for a dynamic Host for What's News. As host, you’d be the face, voice, and driving personality behind the What's News brand, and the ultimate go-to guide for audiences trying to navigate what really matters. It’s a big role, but it’s also one that’s unionized with a base pay of $120K. Not too shabby! |

The CBD Brand that Actually Does What It Says |
|
CBD is having a moment and CBD brands are everywhere right now. But with so many options, it can be tough to know what to look for – and which brands actually follow through on their claims. |
That’s where CBDistillery sets itself apart. For the past decade, all of CBDistillery's products have been made with non-GMO, US-grown industrial hemp and with 100% clean ingredients – no corn syrup or artificial colors, flavors, preservatives or sweeteners. |
They frequently introduce new and innovative products formulated to meet a variety of wellness needs and customer preferences. And every single batch of CBDistillery’s gummies, oil tinctures, topicals and softgels are tested by an independent, accredited lab to make sure what’s in the package matches what’s on the label. |
Right now, CBDistillery is offering our readers a special deal: save 50% on orders of $75 or more with code NEWS50! |

🔥 The Latest Cause of Burnout is Actually… Existential?!
|
Burnout is kind of like an onion: it has layers. 🧅 Sure, overworking is the most obvious causation (the outer layer, if you will), but often the more layers you peel back, the easier it is to identify the root cause. 🧐 |
Case in point: In Deloitte’s recent global workplace survey, roughly nine in 10 Gen Zs and millennials consider a sense of purpose to be important to their job satisfaction and well-being. So it should come as no surprise that the “new burnout,” according to Fast Company, has nothing to do with working too much, and everything to do with not finding meaning or value in the work you’re doing. |
😬 Yikes, how can I tell if my job isn’t giving me a sense of purpose? |
If you feel consistently disconnected, unmotivated, or indifferent about your work, those are all telltale signs that your job may not be filling your cup. |
😱 Does this mean I have to switch jobs?! |
Not necessarily! There’s no one-size-fits-all for meaningful work, and often it’s a lot easier to shift your own approach to work versus overhauling your work life with a brand new job. Here’s where to start: |
💡 Identify the work that feels meaningful to you: Pay attention to what energizes you and what drains you over the course of a week, and look for patterns across those experiences. Once you identify those areas, try to spend more time on them. Even small adjustments can increase your sense of purpose.
🫂 Build out work relationships: Strong relationships make work feel more human and connected. When you invest in your coworkers, your day-to-day experience improves, and that connection creates more meaning. Plus, when you see how your work affects others, it becomes easier to stay motivated!
🧶 Try job crafting: It may sound a little abstract, but job crafting is a self-started process where you reshape your tasks, working relationships, and mindset to better align your job with your personal strengths, skills, and interests. Instead of trying to squeeze yourself into your job description, reshape your role so it fits you better. For example, if working on spreadsheets with a podcast on is your fave part of the day, offer to pick up more slack in that department while a coworker handles your usual meeting prep.
|
🤔 Okay, but how do I know when it’s actually time to move on? |
Sometimes, no amount of reframing can fix a deeper mismatch, and that’s okay! If your values consistently clash with your work, it’s probably time to move on. 👋 |
But instead of scrambling to find the first job that’ll hire you, focus on identifying what meaningful work means to you: for some people, it shows up as creative expression, and for others it looks like financial stability or the ability to solve complex problems. Use that as your springboard for finding more fulfilling work. 💗 |

What Team Girlboss has been loving lately. |
|
🍪 KitchenAid just dropped their new Luminaire Stand Mixer for the year, and we’re already adding it to our holiday wishlists… how gorgeous is that Blue Peppercorn crinkle finish?! |
📸 Contributing Writer Lara was recently at a party where a friend had a Camp Snap screen-free digital camera, and now she’s dying to get one for herself. It’s basically like a disposable camera that uploads directly to your phone, plus the pics turn out sooo cute! |
🩺 Chronic pelvic pain affects 1 in 7 women, but it can take years to get properly diagnosed. We came across Pelvic Rehabilitation Medicine's free symptom quiz from Dr. Ally Shrikhande (who's helped 15K+ patients a year with a totally non-surgical protocol), and honestly? It's a great gut check if you've ever wondered whether your pain is actually "normal."* |
🍦 Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams released their new fall lineup, and we’re dying to get our hands on the Miso Butterscotch Brownie flavor. |
🧋 Lara recently scooped up these extra chunky, colorful glass straws, and she’s been using them for everything from her morning smoothie to her afternoon matcha. She loves how thick and sturdy they are, and they’re even wide enough for slurping up boba! |
