Victoria here, Girlboss’ executive editor. 👋 |
When Sheryl Sandberg named 25-year-old former Meta product manager Bridget Griswold as Lean In’s new CEO back in March, it marked a new chapter for one of the most recognizable organizations in women’s leadership. It also got a lot of people talking. 🤫 |
I had the chance to ask Bridget about what being ambitious means to her, the career skill she wishes she built sooner, her most underrated productivity hack, and the one simple act she never skips—because it works. Hint: ✉️. |

🌎 What does being ambitious mean to you? |
“To me, ambition means working to build a better future for women, and for everyone. As Sheryl Sandberg said, ‘If half our companies and countries were run by women and half our homes were run by men, it would be a better world.’ I’m certain she’s right, and my ambition is in service of getting us closer to that world. Seeing other women succeed made me believe I could too, and my ambition is now about creating that same belief for the girls and women coming up after me. Their leadership is something the world needs.” |
🤝 What’s a skill you wish you’d built sooner? |
“Interviewing. It’s unnatural to talk about yourself in an interview format, but this is a critical skill. Almost everything you grind for early on becomes a few lines on your resume, all in service of earning you an interview for your next role. So once you land one, put everything you’ve got into preparing—and practice out loud. I used to go on walks with headphones in, pretending I was on a phone call, but really I was talking to myself, running answers over and over. Treat the interview like what it is—the last hurdle between you and the job you want—and take preparation seriously.” |
✅ What’s an underrated productivity hack? |
“In addition to having a to-do list, keep a ‘DONE’ list. When I finish a task, I don’t delete it; I graduate it to my DONE list. This is really valuable come time for performance reviews, as women’s contributions are more likely to be overlooked. You have a concrete record of your accomplishments, building your confidence and helping you make your impact visible. And moving something to DONE is really motivating. Instead of my work vanishing into the void, my completed task is tracked, making me feel like I accomplished something, and motivating me to cross the next thing off.” |
👀 What do you look for in someone you want to hire? |
“Self-starters. My favorite kind of person to hire is someone I can hand a task to and get back a clear action plan. They not only spot problems, but they figure out a fix and actually implement it. What I find really rare and valuable is when someone never acts too senior for the work. They’ll roll up their sleeves and do the unglamorous task. The person that takes that kind of initiative and actually completes the work is the person I want to hire.” |
💌 What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received? |
“Always send thank-you notes. A quick, genuine thank-you after an interview, a favor, or a meeting can make a bigger difference than you might realize. So if you’re ever debating whether to send one: send it.” |
❌ And the worst? |
“‘Don’t care what anyone thinks.’ There is definitely some truth in this, but it’s not absolute. Don’t lose sight of how valuable feedback is. No one starts their career perfect, and those who improve the fastest are the ones who listen and adapt. So welcome feedback, accept it even when it doesn’t feel good, and use it to get better.” |

What Team Girlboss has been loving lately. |
|
🤑 The Fourth of July sales are poppin’ right now. First up: Old Navy has 40-70% off, plus an extra 20% off with code EXTRA. Here are a few standouts: these colorful halter tanks (as low as $4), these breezy barrel leg pants ($30), and this adorable scalloped mini dress ($27). |
🪽 You know what’s better than one volumizing clean mascara? Two! MERIT’s brand-new Volumizing Tubing Mascara set comes in your choice of black or brown and gives you that natural, wispy look that will make people ask if you got lash extensions. Bonus: It holds a curl all day and won’t smudge, even when it’s hot AF outside.* |
👙 Executive Editor Victoria just restocked her favorite Huha mineral undies—because the whole site is 30% off, plus 50% off last-chance styles and colors. The high-rise bikini is so flattering and comfortable—and it comes in a million cute colors. |
👀 Content Marketing Manager Kamela’s go-to beauty hack is keeping these Good Molecules eye masks in the fridge (they feel so good in the morning!). Bonus: they actually stay put, which is apparently rarer than it should be. |
🎨 Victoria recently followed cool-girl brand strategist Madison Utendahl on Instagram, and she can’t get enough of her “trends I’m not buying / trends I am buying” videos. It’s basically like brand marketing brain candy with a dash of history. |
