Victoria here, Girlboss’ executive editor. 👋 |
For as long as we can all remember, needing the “right” degree was the norm for most white-collar jobs. I got a journalism degree to become a journalist… because that’s just how it was. But now, skills-based hiring is on the rise. 📈 According to new data, 30% of paid LinkedIn job postings no longer require a professional degree. So, what does this mean for the future of hiring—and for anyone trying to pivot without going back to school? 🤔 |

💼 Job of the day: Jellycat is hiring a Social Media Manager in London to lead social-first storytelling for the world’s most adorable plush toys. An excuse to move across the pond and get paid to dream up content ideas about a stuffed croissant? A dream job fr. |

There’s A Smarter Way to Take Meeting Notes 📝 |
Ever had a meeting where a random bot joins the call and it’s just sitting there like. 🧍🤖 So distracting! So awkward! |
Granola works differently. There are no meeting bots. It just transcribes directly from your device’s audio (and works with Google Meet, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams), so you can stay focused and jot down notes like you normally would. |
Granola quietly transcribes and enhances the important bits in the background. Then, after the call, it turns your notes into clear summaries, action items, and next steps. Genius, right?! 💡 |

Your Skills Might Finally Matter More Than Your Diploma 📃 |
According to new LinkedIn data, 30% of paid job postings no longer require a professional degree, up from 19% in 2019. In other words, employers are starting to care less about where you went to school and more about what you can actually bring to the table. Um… finally?! |
Because, let’s be honest: If you have all of the technical skills needed for the job (through past job/internship/apprenticeship experience, online courses, etc.), does it really matter if you learned them in a really expensive classroom? |
Some hiring managers argue that yes, it does—because in college, you learn “soft” skills, like working in groups, prioritizing tasks, and communicating effectively. Which, TBH, you don’t need a degree to learn. |
That said, many of these roles still require experience or industry-specific certifications—so “no degree required” doesn’t necessarily mean “no qualifications required.” If you’re looking to sharpen a specific skill—or pivot entirely—online programs make it easier than ever. |
With Skillshare, MasterClass, General Assembly, LinkedIn Learning, and Google Career Certificates, you could get the exact skills you need without having to drop thousands of dollars on higher education. 👏 |
This rise of skills-based hiring gives once-overlooked workers the opportunity to get hired (and maybe even earn a six-figure salary)—and with companies in desperate need of talented, hardworking, and highly skilled employees now more than ever, it sounds like a win-win situation to us. 🙂↕️ |
