When it comes to celebrating Pride Month, sometimes it can be difficult to wade through all the corporate BS and cheap merch (ahem, Target’s flop of a Pride collection this year 👀), which is why one of our favorite ways to celebrate is by watching authentic queer stories.

👊 Bottoms: Two unpopular, queer teen besties start an after-school fight club under the guise of female empowerment, but their actual goal is to get close to (and hopefully hook up with) their popular cheerleader. Think Wet Hot American Summer, but with queer teens.

📣 But I’m a Cheerleader: In this iconic performance from Natasha Lyonne, she plays a high school cheerleader who’s sent to a gay conversion therapy camp, but instead of being “cured,” she embraces her sexual identity.

🔥 Fire Island: A modern, queer retelling of Pride and Prejudice set on the LGBTQ+ haven of Fire Island? Say less!

💌 The Half of It: In this sweet coming-of-age drama, cash-strapped teen Ellie Chu agrees to write a love letter for a jock, but doesn’t expect to become his friend—or fall for his crush.

🍊 Tangerine: Before there was Anora, there was Tangerine—Sean Baker’s indie comedy-drama about two trans sex workers on a frenzied mission in LA to confront a cheating boyfriend and his lover.

Bonus: Hailey Kiyoko’s upcoming feature film directorial debut, Girls Like Girls (inspired by her novel and viral music video of the same name!), is in theaters June 19 and tells the story of two teen girls falling in love and discovering themselves. 🥹

🪩 Pose: Centered on the underground African American and Latino ball culture in 1990s New York, it tells the story of queer resilience during the height of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. To date, it has featured the largest cast of transgender actors in series regular roles ever. 

💍 Schitt’s Creek: Patrick’s emotional proposal to David forever altered our brain chemistry, but TBH, we’ll take any excuse to revisit the fabulous (and formerly filthy-rich) Rose family as they navigate small-town life. 

🍆 Sex Education: A teenage boy with a sex-therapist mother sets up an underground sex-therapy clinic at school to help his classmates navigate their sexuality, and the results are shockingly wholesome!
