Time To Get Moving!

Who's ready to hibernate for the winter? We know we are. Hopefully you are staying dry and warm inside. Same goes for your golf cart. If you're ready to store it for a long winter's nap, don't miss these steps to avoid unpleasant surprises when the warmer days arrive and you're ready to get moving again.

7 Fundamental Steps that will help you keep your cart in the best shape to survive the winter.

  1. Disconnect the energy vampires – first of all, turn off your key and disconnect anything that pulls power off your battery (12-volt accessories like headlights, taillights, radio).

  2. Clean your golf cart – beside cleaning the outside of your golf cart, your flooring and upholstery, it's important to clean your battery every once in a while. You can do it with a mix of baking soda and water (3:1 ratio for the best results), but remember to disconnect all battery terminals before you do that. The best solution to protect your storage area/garage floor surface from dirt, grime, harsh cleaners, battery acid, corrosives etc. is a floor protector mat

  3. Charge the battery – the next step is to fully charge your battery. If you don’t have an automatic charger that does this job for you throughout the season, a battery charge indicator can help you keep track of the level of charge in your batteries, saving you time and reducing risks of overcharging.

  4. Don't forget the tires – the tires will naturally deflate due to the weight, so it's important to check your tire pressure and inflate them as high as allowable in order to protect your wheels and extend your tire's longevity.

  5. Check the water levels – using only distilled water, refill the water levels approximately ¼ inch above the plates. If your golf cart doesn't have an automatic watering system, using this specifically designed battery water fill bottle will prevent adding more water once it reaches the correct level. Just remember to have a fully charged battery in order to prevent acid from overflowing.

  6. Put your baby to sleep – store your golf cart in a cool and dry place. Protect your investment, and tuck your baby in with a golf cart cover. It only takes a couple of minutes to put it on and it will protect your golf cart from dust, debris, and potential moisture.

  7. Keep an eye out – your golf cart needs you to monthly recharge the battery and check the water levels. If you want to shorten your visits, get the Lester Battery Charger which has a winter storage mode feature that automatically regulates the charge for you.
