“This is a sword and magic genre with magic being available through the use of certain gemstones through a technique only known to the monks of the church. It is set in the world of Corona and centers around a demon awakening who then uses his influence to unite the three factions of goblins, giants, and Powries. When these tribes were separate and unled they were little trouble for the humans and elves, but now that they have a powerful leader guiding them disaster looms for the humans and elves. This saga chronicles the story of a band of adventurers and their journey to take out the demon leader which will hopefully make the factions (goblins, giants, and Powries) fall apart and be easy prey again. Every so often the protagonist will journey to a secluded spot and reflect on events with his ancestor (essentially talking out loud to a shadow). Personally, I found this distracting and not adding much to the story. I did find the story entertaining; much time was spent around developing the adventurers and the world around them and although this story takes place centuries after Saga of the First King, you can listen to either series first although I recommend starting with The DemonWars Saga.” - Mike “During college, I read this series, and for a few years after doing so, I lamented the lack of an audio drama for it, saying so to a dear friend of mine on numerous occasions. Much to my surprise and delight, he told me one had been produced. He'd found it by accident when he listened to another production, Elantris, with a friend, and through him, I first discovered the work of graphic Audio. Only parts of the series had been produced when we purchased it, and I can say without reservation that it was absolutely worth every bit of the wait. First, I loved the books themselves. This epic series offers a bounty for any lover of fantasies. Besides the different kinds of creatures, particularly the inventive takes on dwarves and elves, this series offers cool magic, deep characters, plots and questions that force one to think, even while immensely enjoying the action and intrigue, chances for redemption and to embrace evil, and interesting cultures, types of warriors, and religions. The stories fit together, the author shows his true talents as an artist of note, and for me, these particular editions evoke a fair amount of nostalgia. Added to that, when you read them, you will experience every emotion from joy and merriment to excruciating sorrow and fury. Then, of course, I loved the acting: I could tell that the cast members really enjoyed their roles, much thought was put into their selection, and Graphic Audio was careful to do a very, very good job. I appreciate the sound effects and music, am pleased with the choice of narrator, and feel that this particular set of audio productions of this series was what I'd been looking for. If you love the fantasy genre, as I do, if unabridged audio dramas are among the types of books you fancy, and if you want a series that exercises your brain and makes you thrill, buy these.” - Amy |
