Dad's Just Wanna Grill
It’s true that many dads never quite warmed up to all the fuss around Father’s Day. That goes back further than you might think. In the early 1900s, early efforts to celebrate fathers were often met with more eye-rolls than excitement. Some men were content to keep things simple and skip the spotlight altogether. Over time, though, the day found its footing, shaped in part by retailers during the Great Depression and later by a country looking for ways to honor fathers serving overseas during World War II.
Fast forward to 21st century America and Father’s Day has gained a firm footing as a family summer celebration. Whether that means a quiet afternoon, a backyard gathering, or a full table of good food, the heart of the day hasn’t changed much. It is about appreciation, time together, and the small traditions that stick from one year to the next. And more often than not, it’s Dad out back tending the grill, doing what he does best.
There’s just something about a grill in June that brings people together. The smell of a good steak hitting the heat, burgers flipping at just the right moment, maybe a rack of ribs slow cooking over coals. It’s a simple pleasure, but it carries a lot of meaning.
