If you're wondering whether we can still be inspired by a new style of selvedge denim, the answer is a resounding yes. Today we present work of rugged selvedge art and one of the reasons we continue to fall in love over and over again with the world of rare denim. It'll challenge you, but the break-in is well worth it. We call it the Monster Indigo X Brown. 

The best selvedge in the world manages to combine the most beautiful ingredients into a complex and rich whole. Each element must standout, while also supporting a stunning overall look. This is exactly the the Monster Indigo X Brown does so well. 

It starts with a beastly, 18 ounce weight. This is serious denim - starchy, dense, burly. You will have to work to break this one in, but it'll mold to your body perfectly. Next come the masterful use of dye, both in the warp and weft. The warp gets an incredibly dark, inky indigo finish. The weft gets an ultra-rare gold-tinged brown dye unlike any other style we've run. What makes these two colors much more special is the use of slubby yarns. This irregularity serves to create separation in the top surface of the fabric, allowing the unique brown-weft be seen. It's not over the top, just enough to blend an incredibly saturated indigo appearance with a subtle antique brown glow. This is the type of collector denim you just truly look forward to owning and breaking in for years.

We've explored the world of double black denim a lot now, ranging from light weight all the way up to 23oz monsters. It's a tough looking composition that presents an amazing alternative to traditional blue denim. This one gives you that same great look with a much deserved touch of comfort. It starts with a jet black warp and weft. This is as dark as it gets. We enjoy the versatility of this color - pair it with a t-shirt for a rugged and casual look or with a button down for a touch of formality. The wear-in is sweet as it gets down to charcoal where the grain starts to make a more prominent appearance. Fabric
We sought fabric that would instantly take you back in time. Heavy cotton fleece is the answer. Extra burly and dense with a hand that stands out. It starts off with a touch of coarseness. You have to earn your comfort like raw denim, but over time it develops into the perfect mix of weight and suppleness. The finish is a luxuriously brushed backside for comfort. The instant you touch this pullover you'll get it. We, and you, have experienced the quality this mill in Canada delivers. Our heavyweight indigo t-shirts use their jersey. 

Construction
Real attention to detail. Flat locked seams throughout. Ribbed side panels. Hems, cuffs and collar are a bit wider to instantly convey the vintage aesthetic we want to capture. A perfectly sized hood with rib panel. The classic kangaroo pocket. The quality of sewing is apparent. This is precisely why we partnered with the mill that makes the fabric to make the garment. They know the material and they know how to use it best. 

Finish
High quality veg tan leather patches. A large format patch goes inside the collar. A small square goes on the bottom hem. Each will age uniquely over time.

Fit
A bit more relaxed old school than our standard style. It's a good match for the vintage inspiration and for the heavier weight fabric.

This is one sweet denim from start to finish. It's the perfect blend of rare ingredients, character and classic fundamentals. Japan is the master. Here, we start with pure luxury in the form of silk yarn. One of the highest silk compositions we've run at 42%. It's paired with a classic dark indigo dyed cotton. The result is instantly recognizable, classic raw denim with a level up in feel. You get the rawness we all love, but it's just a big notch more wearable. That wearability is great because you'll want to show off the super neppy finish on the surface. Organic and unique in each pair, the surface explodes with these tiny tufts of yarn. Japan Silk Nep

A shirt that instantly takes you back in time in all the right ways. From color, to texture to pattern, this is a true throwback style masterfully woven in Japan. These are the 20 Year Twills. 

There were always a few garments our parents wore that captivated our attention. It was usually because they possessed a certain style that we associated with them. They were usually worn hard for years and years to the point of near disintegration. They were softened by time and service and were seared into our memories from a young age. This is what inspired the 20 Year Twills. Color is what first draws you in - vivid colors given soft finish so they take an a perfect worn patina. A retro plaid pattern is the perfect way to bring these colors together and lends a vintage vibe. Intensely slubby yarns create the most beautifully organic texture. It's almost as if the shirt has been work so hard it has started to breakdown. We usually only see such great texture in the best selvedge denim. Finally, this perfectly balance a dense yet soft in in a solid 8 ounce package. These are simply special shirts that bring an earlier memory up to today's standards.

A loose weave and special twisted yarn lend this Japan made fabric a hand-woven look, flowingly soft feel and vivid color. These are the Electric Homespun Shirts.

Yarn drives this special shirting style from Japan. The mill calls it a low twist. It creates an open character to the finished fabric that lends it an old-world, hand-made look. This softness is a nice balance to the sturdy 9 ounce weight. Even better is the use of twisted yarn that combines multiple, vivid colors to create an organic multi-hued heather effect. Rustic yet bright, the combination is spot on and results in one of our favorite styles of the season.
