We all need to do our bit to help the environment, and one of the best ways we can do this is to take care of our clothes and make sure they last as long as possible. So show your 'fits some love and take a look through our top tips.

READ THE CARE LABEL

This might seem like an obvious one, but this is the first thing we should do and it can help us avoid any damage that might occur after washing/drying/ironing at the wrong setting. Read the label and make sure you understand the symbols before throwing your fave clothes into the washing machine.

WASH YOUR CLOTHES INSIDE OUT

Sweat, dead skin cells, and bacteria (nice), which cause your clothes to smell after a workout, accumulate on the inside. If you wash your clothes inside out, they'll be cleaned more thoroughly. It'll also help any prints and logos last a lot longer, because they'll be protected from the heat and spinning of the washing machine.

WASH AT A LOW OR COLD TEMPERATURE

Your fave workout clothes are usually made from synthetic fibres, like polyester, nylon, and elastane. These give great stretch and other technical properties, but it also means they can be damaged and shrink if washed at a high temperature.

Wash your Gymshark in cold water or at max 30°C. This way, you'll extend their lifespan as well as reducing the energy used and greenhouse gas emissions generated during the wash cycle. Win/win.

DO NOT TUMBLE DRY

It might be convenient, but the heat and agitation from tumble drying will shorten your Gymshark's lifespan. Where possible, air dry your clothes to preserve their elasticity, logos, and prints, which will also save you energy and reduce your greenhouse gas emissions.
