Following the conclusion of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this past weekend, we celebrate an event that has shared a close and enduring relationship with the Royal Family for generations.
Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II served as Patron of the Commonwealth Games Federation throughout her seventy-year reign. Today, His Majesty King Charles continues this association as Head of the Commonwealth and Patron of Commonwealth Sport, supported by The Duke of Edinburgh as Vice-Patron.
This year’s Games welcomed members of the Royal Family throughout the eleven days of competition. The King and Queen opened proceedings with a wonderfully unexpected arrival in a TARDIS, while The Prince and Princess of Wales enjoyed a family day of netball and track cycling with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Bringing eleven memorable days of competition to a close, The Duke of Edinburgh delivered the closing address and formally declared Glasgow 2026 concluded.
