Ascot: A Royal Tradition

As Royal Ascot returns today, it once again brings together many of the traditions that have long defined the British summer season.

For more than three centuries, Ascot has enjoyed a close association with the British Monarchy, a relationship that began in 1711 when Queen Anne founded the racecourse. Today, under the reign of His Majesty King Charles III, Royal Ascot remains one of the most anticipated events in the Royal calendar, combining sporting excellence with pageantry, heritage and tradition.

Throughout its history, generations of the Royal Family have attended Ascot, from

Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, whose love of horses became synonymous with the event, to His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty Queen Camilla, who continue this proud tradition today.

Members of the Royal Family, including The Prince and Princess of Wales, remain an integral part of the occasion, helping to preserve the unique character that distinguishes Royal Ascot from any other race meeting in the world.

The daily Royal Procession, first introduced in 1825, remains one of the defining moments of the week and serves as a reminder of the enduring bond between the Crown and British racing.

As racegoers gather once again in Ascot, we celebrate a tradition that continues to unite sporting excellence and Royal history in a way that is uniquely British.
