For Jordan Soderholm, fragrance is never an afterthought—it's the final layer that brings an entire look to life. As co-founder of Nashville fragrance house Ranger Station, she's built a brand around the idea that scent has the power to transform everyday moments into lasting memories. Since launching the brand in 2015 with her husband Steve Soderholm, Ranger Station has become known for its bold, ingredient-conscious fragrances, iconic reusable cocktail glass candles, and adventurous spirit. We caught up with Jordan to talk about building a brand rooted in experience, what drew her to Charleston, and why the best wardrobes—like the best fragrances—are collected over time, each piece carrying a story of its own.

Ranger Station

Jordan Soderholm is co-founder and chief growth officer of Ranger Station. She's a graduate of Belmont University, and a former Nashville wardrobe stylist. Aside from Ranger Station, Jordan chases around her three young children with Steve, and enjoys gardening, reading, and styling through her Substack 'you didn't ask'.

Which comes first: the outfit or the fragrance?

The outfit.

And do you choose a fragrance to match your outfit, or an outfit to match your fragrance?

The fragrance is the finishing touch to me. You pick the outfit and the whole vibe, then you finish it with a fragrance. It's never finished without the fragrance.

What made Charleston feel like the right fit for Ranger Station?

I was really drawn to the creativity here. I don't think people realize how many entrepreneurs and creatives are in this city. Steve and I were always drawn to the people here, and of course King Street is such an iconic shopping street, so it was the perfect mix. Now that we're spending so much time in Charleston, we really love how relaxed it is while still having so much happening. It's the perfect city to us.

What does luxury smell like to you?

Luxury smells like you—but just a little bit better.

What do you think makes someone effortlessly stylish?

I think the pieces are lived in and have a story. They're collected over time instead of being an outfit you could just purchase all at once. Like this Dries top I'm wearing—I spotted it a few months ago while we were opening this store, and buying it brings me back to that moment. I love pieces that feel intentional and have memories attached to them.

When it comes to fashion, what's something you'll always invest in?

For me, it's very piece-specific. There are just certain pieces that stand out to you. But generally, it's always shoes, bags, and jewelry. Those can completely change an outfit and instantly elevate even the simplest look.

If Charleston had a signature scent, what would be in it?

I stepped outside this morning and was smacked in the face with the salty air, and I loved it. There would definitely be that saltiness.

Do you have a signature scent, or does it change with your mood?

I always wear a skin scent—something subtle that smells a little different on everyone who wears it. Jordan's Perfume is actually my signature scent, and I travel with it everywhere. I'll layer additional fragrances depending on what I'm doing, and at night I usually reach for something a little heavier.

How has building Ranger Station influenced your personal style—if at all?

It's influenced my style because it's really been vice versa. Building Ranger Station has allowed me to travel a lot, so I'm constantly inspired by the cities we're in—Nashville, New York City, and Charleston. I've also had the opportunity to meet founders of incredible fashion brands and stores, like Hampden. It 's expanded my view of what's out there and allowed me to collect really cool pieces along the way.
