Dear Friend,

Over the years, I’ve met so many people who tell me they want to write a book.

Sometimes they say it casually, like, “One day I’m going to write a book.”

Other times, you can tell it’s something they’ve been thinking about for years. A story they want to tell. A message they believe could help people. A novel they keep coming back to. Or maybe a book they’ve started and stopped more times than they can count.

Surveys show that more than half of Americans want to write a book, but less than 6% actually finish one.

I’ve spent 36 years in publishing, and I’ve seen firsthand how hard it can be to go from wanting to write a book to actually completing it.

And most of the time, it’s not because people aren’t talented enough. Writing a book is hard.

At the beginning, it can feel exciting and inspiring. But somewhere in the middle, most people hit a wall. The excitement wears off, the blank page starts winning, and suddenly it becomes very easy to put the whole thing off until “someday.”

That’s why I always say writing a book is a little like climbing Mount Everest.

At the bottom, it can seem impossible. Halfway through, you start wondering why you ever decided to do it. But when you finally finish—when you’re holding that completed manuscript or your first printed copy in your hands—it changes something in you.

You realize, “If I can do this, what else can I do?” That feeling is powerful.

At Hay House, this idea is very personal to us.

Louise Hay didn’t start with a giant publishing company behind her. She started with a message she believed could help people. She found a way to get Heal Your Body and You Can Heal Your Life into the world, and those books became the catalyst for what eventually became Hay House.

I often think about how many lives would have been different if Louise had kept those ideas in a drawer.

Our Hay House Book Writer’s Bootcamp starts tomorrow, and it was created for people who have a book inside them and need help bringing it out.

Some people come to us with a nearly finished manuscript. Some have been working on their book for years. Some have 13 different ideas and no clue which one to write first. And some are just starting with a sentence, a story, or a feeling they can’t ignore.

All of those are perfectly good places to begin. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you start. You just need to take the next step.

And that’s what this Bootcamp is designed to help with—whether you’re writing nonfiction, memoir, self-help, spirituality, business, personal growth, or fiction.

We’ll also talk about what happens after the writing is done, because learning how publishing works and how to share your book with readers is part of the journey too.

So this week, I want to ask you: What book keeps tapping you on the shoulder?

And what might change in your life if you finally gave that book the time, structure, and support it deserves?

Have a great week.

Wishing You the Best,
Reid Tracy
CEO, Hay House
