Recently launching their soft open in downtown Boston, Sando Table serves up Japanese-inspired sandwiches on soft and fluffy Shokupan (often called milk bread) alongside Nori Fries, Spicy Gyoza, Truffle Takoyaki and more. From their classic Chicken Katsu to their upgrade to an egg salad, the Tamago, they also whip up a delicious Yuzu Fish N’ Chips and a breakfast sandwich complete with a Japanese-style egg patty, cheese, grilled ham, crispy potato croquette, Tonkatsu sauce and scallion. If that didn’t get your mouth watering then just give photos of their food a quick look and you’ll be wanting to stop by in no time.

Exile in Bookville in Chicago marries a passion for music with a love of literature in their shop located in the historical Fine Arts Building on Michigan Avenue. You can already guess this if you catch the reference in their name to the Liz Phair album, Exile in Guyville. Going beyond just vinyl and volumes, they also host a multitude of events. Coming up in May and June are book signings and book clubs, but you can also watch recordings of past virtual events and featured authors here. If you’re in the Windy City then swinging by in person is obviously my biggest recommendation, but if you don’t find yourself close enough you can still shop on their site and support their objective to bring together community, audiophiles and bibliophiles alike.

Old-school hip-hop fans, this one is for you. Canadian rapper Cadence Weapon recently released his newest album, Forager. A commentary on sustainability, thoughtful consumerism, and shopping with an eye for enduring craftsmanship, his message is set against a lo-fi backdrop of jazz and rap with spoken word mixed in on certain tracks. A favorite on the album is “Niagara Region”, smooth and resonant and even dropping in a reference to Stanley Kubrick. It flows effortlessly into the next, “Fall 2012 Couture”, leaning into his overall message and the connection he makes between timeless clothing to timeless musical styles that he’s embracing in this album.
