BEHIND THE SCENES

Jerry Hsu Turned 15 Years in LA into a Story About Love and Letting Go

The former professional skateboarder, Sci-Fi Fantasy founder, and photographer of our 2025 Andrew Reynolds cover story Jerry Hsu has redefined the way we all see (and document) our urban surroundings. In his upcoming photobook from Mack, titled How About Never, Hsu has compiled a diaristic time capsule of the last 15 years he's spent living in Los Angeles.

It's a project that's been more than a decade in the making, as Hsu confesses in an interview with Highsnobiety's Manus Browne: "I showed Ed Templeton an edit of this book maybe 10 years ago. He was like, 'I think you’re just trying to show all your bangers, and it’s not really making sense.' Which was a very, very smart thing to say because I was doing that. You need someone to tell you that it doesn’t make sense."

As a finished product, How About Never is, let's be honest, still full of bangers, but there's also a deeper personal narrative woven into Hsu's images of LA. "The relationship with my wife is kind of a secret narrative of the book," as he explains. "I had an entire relationship and marriage here, and it ended basically when the book ends." Hsu talks further about how a sense of failure is "sprinkled" throughout the book — artistic catharsis aside, the practice of photography, after all, is about the forever imperfect process of trying to capture a moment forever.

Amsterdam Fashion Week: Unbelievably Unpretentious

© Highsnobiety

In his dispatch from Amsterdam Fashion Week — where the easiest and most stylish way to get around was still via bicycle, of course — Highsnobiety's Stefanos Constantinou recounts how the city's fashionable set have made AFW feel undeniably their own. (Two words: tulip vodka!)

One particular highlight: the Camiel Fortgens show, which didn't start until after 10 p.m. — for one very specific reason. "It was hosted inside a supermarket, meaning we had to wait for the last local shoppers to exit before transforming the grocery aisles into a runway," as Stefanos explains. "Watching clothes that are actively defining contemporary fashion glide past displays of Gouda was peak Amsterdam."

Plus: For newbies to the Amsterdam fashion scene, we've put together our official Amsterdam Brand Guide here.

GOOD POINT

"It's more of a conceptual take on a handbag than just a denim tote."

A Bag That's Also a Vest

What if a beautifully constructed cross-body sling bag could also keep you warm? Enter the côte&ciel Reno bag, which has a built-in hood and can be unzipped into a full-fledged layering vest.

"On paper, a bag that turns into a gilet sounds like the sort of thing you’d find in a very niche episode of Shark Tank," as Highsnobiety's Max Migowski notes (and models above). "In practice, it’s kind of brilliant. T-shirt on, weather takes a turn, suddenly you’ve got a hood and an extra layer without having had to carry either around all day."
