A New Look for Menswear Takes Shape

Now that the dust has settled from Pitti and PFW, editor-in-chief Noah Johnson takes a moment to divine the runway tea leaves in his latest column. The most exciting revelation, especially from Paris, isn't the rise or fall of some micro-trend (though we at Highsnobiety still did identify a few for you to keep an eye on), but the sense of arrival of a fully articulated "look" for menswear today.   


"For the last ten years, it's been like, 'What's going to be next? What will all of this lead to?'" Noah notes. Now we know. Across the clothes proposed by everyone from Dior to Louis Vuitton, AURALEE to Soshiotsuki,  the new look for menswear isn't nailed down to a single silhouette. Instead, it's more of an idealized approach to the wardrobe, as embodied through details like asymmetrically popped collars, ties tucked into waistbands, and suits that fit poorly yet perfectly.


"It’s a look that signals a kind of life and the possibility of being the type of person who has a strong innate personal style," Noah explains. "It’s not a look about what’s going on in the world, or what fashion means for our times." Call it aspirational realism — a look architected not by any one individual, but arising instead from the hive minds of the best visionaries at work. For those in the business of trendspotting, there's nothing better than observing a glorious non-trend crystallizing in place.
