BEHIND THE SCENES

Michael Olise Isn't Trying To Be Mysterious

© Juergen Teller / Highsnobiety

"Everyone told me he would be difficult — monosyllabic, closed off," writer Massaër Ndiaye says of his expectations upon interviewing the notoriously taciturn 24-year-old footballer for Highsnobiety's latest digital cover. After all, the young Bayern Munich winger — who you'll see playing for the France national team this month — has only given four interviews up until now.

But it turns out that Olise is anything but purposefully mysterious. "The whole 'enigma' thing is a misread; he is just selective," Massaër says. In the Q&A, the athlete opens up about, among other topics, his family. We get to learn that his mother introduced him to chess, that his father was a national cricket player for Nigeria, and that Olise and his footballing brother (who plays for Chelsea) almost never talk about the sport between themselves.

On the field, Olise's aversion to overly announcing himself translates into amazing restraint. "He stands basically still," as Massaër puts it. "We feel like he's almost bored, and then suddenly he is not. He's like a hot knife slicing through butter when facing the defense. The goal happens before you realize the sequence has started." His calm, calculating style of play thus makes the goals "feel heavier, somehow." All of which makes Olise a highly satisfying player to watch — and to get to know more.

The Meticulous Intimacy of Salon C. Lundman

After studying at Central Saint Martins and landing big jobs at Burberry, Tom Ford, and Tiger of Sweden, designer Christoffer Lundman walked away from the fashion industry. But while sketching in an Italian palazzo a few years into his reprieve, Lundman had a revelation about returning to the field — this time, under his own terms.

Enter Salon C. Lundman,  now in its third season and already the favorite of the discerning menswear set, such as Auralee's Ryota Iwai. In an interview with Highsnobiety editor-in-chief Noah Johnson, the designer expands on his personal ethos and the evolution of a brand that, amazingly, still feels like an intense passion project.

A Perfect-Fitting Trail Shoe

 © Satisfy

From a distance, Satisfy's TheROCKER running sneakers look pretty sleek and compact, but the design involves a sole that seems ready to handle pretty serious terrain. And then there are the laces. "The wrap lacing system almost feels like it locks your foot into the shoe rather than simply tightening around it," notes Highsnobiety writer and prolific runner Paul Chaumien. "The result is an incredibly secure fit that immediately feels more technical somehow than most trainers on the market."
