How to Survive PFW

This week in Paris, the Highsnobiety team has been racing around the city reading the tea leaves on Pharrell's personal style, documenting the staying power of long shorts summer, and observing the best clothes of Fashion Week (although it's hard to beat vintage sourced from the wardrobes of French peasants). There is also, of course, the matter of simply surviving the hottest days in French history.

"When you first leave your hotel, you think, 'Okay, this is going to be manageable,'" says Highsnobiety Fashion Director Sebastian Jean. "Then you're sitting on a bench at a show and can feel the sweat beads dripping down your back." Cue the fans (both electric and hand-held), plenty of face mist, shorts, and linens galore. Per Jean, the labels are handing out plenty of bottled water and umbrellas at the shows; some such as Dior and Rick Owens have even switched their afternoon showtimes for early morning slots.

Our Social Media Editor Daniil Gritsenko reports that he's also hearing of people jumping into the canal for a quick, unsanctioned dip. At the Louis Vuitton show on Tuesday night, which featured a tantalizing 30-foot surfer's wave on the runway, Gritsenko took matters into his own hands: "I stepped into the water for a second," he admits. "They almost kicked me out."

Should you find yourself surviving and thriving on the streets of Paris this weekend, the Highsnobiety team put together a guide to the 13 Paris brands we especially love for your perusing pleasure. Just maybe take a cab (or an e-bike!) on your way, and stay hydrated out there!

GOOD POINT

“What interests me is whether the work remains relevant and whether it continues to move people. Success is a consequence of that, not the objective.”

One Good White Summer Pant

Should you find yourself on the hunt for a pair of classically summer white pants, you'll realize soon enough that structure is key. Unlike a pair of denim jeans, which can be rather forgiving, one ultimately cannot get away with white pants that are too slouchy, too cropped, or too weird in the crotch. Enter Uniqlo's barrel pants, by way of Clare Waight Keller, which come in a perfect shade of off-white.

"Beyond the generous leg room, it was the hidden drawstring under the waistband that really sealed the deal," notes shopping writer Patrick Grady. "The length was ideal, but without that sneaky little tweak, a belt would’ve been non-negotiable, and let’s be honest, that can kill the whole effortless vibe of a pant like this."
