Highsnobiety Beauty Columnist Sable Yong does think you should experience the thrill of having expensive hand soap at least once — "just to see if you're going to become the type of person who would like to pay about $1.10 per hand-washing," as she writes in her latest edition on status hand soaps. Especially since the field is now crowded with impressive candidates from Malin+Goetz, Compagnie De Provence, Ortegia Sicily, Astier De Villate, to name a few (plus of course, your Loewe, Byredo and Diptyque standbys).
But whether you decide to commit to the "Tomato Leaves" life is a choice only you can make, bearing in mind the obvious sink-side flex of it all. "While I enjoy a chest-tightening splurge every now and then, the idea of paying so much for something I literally send down the drain frankly doesn’t inspire me," as Sable says. "Luxury is many things, and in my opinion, that includes the ability to reuse something precious often and possibly pass it down."
