I think the thing that gets people hooked on the Matrix of Destiny is that it’s seemingly explicit about the two things everyone actually wants a chart to answer: career and money, and what you’re innately reallllly good at.

Other meaning-making systems make you work for it. Astrology has plenty to say about how you work best, where you’re cosmically #blessed, and what your ideal career might look like — but any astrologer worth their salt will resist treating your natal chart like one of those career aptitude tests you took in college.¹ Human Design will hand you your strategy and authority and then leave you alone to marinate in what “wait for the invitation” really means. (Is it theoretical? Literal? A lil’ mix of both?)

The Matrix just... has a section. Right there on the chart. A Gifts and Talents triad and a Career and Money line, labeled, like the bulk bin aisle at Sprouts. Your Gifts and Talents triad is three archetypes where you have a supernatural affinity — areas of life that are hard for other people to master but come to you so easily you barely register them as gifts.

the operative word is “seemingly”

Just because there is literally a triad labeled Gifts and Talents does not mean your chart holds a simple three-step process for becoming a kajilionaire and landing your dream job before you turn 30. You cannot robotically input your Gs & Ts into your mental programming and expect your life to assemble itself around you.

Meaning-making systems work when they help you build self-knowledge and discernment. And those two traits are nurtured by two actions: curious inquiry into what your chart suggests, and thoughtful practice implementing what you find. Inquiry and reps. There is no cheat code in any chart — this one included, despite the signs — that tells you exactly what to do to be successful.

And I can prove there’s no cheat code, because I’ve done enough of these readings to know what happens when I “reveal” someone’s gifts and talents according to their Matrix of Destiny chart.

the economics of ignoring your gifts

Maybe I’m a terrible practitioner, but when I tell someone about their gifts, I usually caveat with something like, Well, you might not like this…

Because most of the time, a client is rarely shocked about what their chart says. There’s usually a shrug in it. Yeah, I mean, I’ve always been good at that. So I preemptively apologize when relaying someone’s Gs & Ts, because more often than not it’s a bit of a let down.

But here’s the thing: Almost nobody uses their gifts on purpose. The most explicit section of the most explicit chart in the entire esoteric canon, and it changes nothing. If a cheat code existed, this is where it would be, and everyone who read it would be rich and rested. Look around, cowgirl. They are not.

Most people are not leveraging their gifts and talents to make their life easier. They go right back to grinding through their life using every faculty EXCEPT the freely abundant ones.

Why? IDK, maybe they’re right when they say we don’t value what we didn’t pay for. Maybe because a gift seems to cost you nothing, it registers as worth nothing. It’s just the wallpaper of being you.

Meanwhile the things we struggle at feel virtuous and expensive and real, because we’ve all internalized the idea that effort is the receipt that proves the work counted. You take the long way, you suffer appropriately, and now the outcome is earned and filed under “strong work ethic” and you can finally enjoy it.

Follow this line of unconscious thinking long enough and you end up in a sort of deranged arrangement where the thing you could do easily sits on the shelf gathering dust while you white-knuckle the hard, doesn’t-come-easy version instead. And then you feel tired and confused about why life is so exhaustingly Sisyphean.

To be clear: hard mode is sometimes necessary. Growth happens there, and some of your chart is specifically about the challenges you signed up for. But there’s necessary hard mode and there’s unnecessary hard mode. I think you probably want to choose your hard. Spend your difficulty budget on the challenges that actually transform you, and let your gifts carry everything else.

reading your gifts and talents: the inquiry half

So: inquiry and reps. Here’s the inquiry.

Pull up your chart. The Gifts and Talents zone shows three energies (check the chart key on the site — it’s the cluster your generator labels as talents, ancestral gifts, or similar depending on the translation).

For each of your three archetypes, ask:

1. What does this look like when I’m actually doing it? If you have the 5 (Teacher), you explain things and people go “ohhhh.” If you have the 12 (Empathy), you’re preternaturally gifted at relating to and helping other people.

2. When did I last use it on purpose? Not when did it last happen TO you. When did you last reach for it like a tool, like a super power.
