Before it was the unofficial uniform of Ivy Leaguers, jazz legends, and stars on the silver screen, the Oxford served a simpler, albeit surprising, purpose: to be a shirt that could take a beating and breathe easy in the saddle. Originally designed for polo players, the Oxford was performance gear before "performance gear" was a thing. The button-down collar kept it from flapping in the wind while players rode up and down the field, and the unique weave allowed for plenty of airflow while being both thicker and tougher than other collared shirts on offer. The same holds true for our Oxford Draftsman Shirt, even if we’re only wearing it to the office. Cut from classic, garment-washed cotton with a hint of stretch and built with back pleats for better mobility, it’s one of the few things in our closet that actually gets better the more we wear it—the type of shirt you buy once and end up owning forever, almost unknowingly.

Founded in 1998, Briefing was built on the idea of true “militarism.” In the minds of its Japanese founders, that didn’t mean tactical gear or even gear built for the armed forces. Instead, it meant making American mil-spec standard bags through the lens of Japanese designers. At launch, they partnered with an American factory with longstanding ties to the U.S. Army, gaining access to the same heavy-duty fabrics—like 1050 Denier Ballistic Nylon—and countless technical and material innovations. From there, they fashioned those same utilitarian materials into designs fit for the city. Over 25 years later, the mission hasn't changed. Every bag is built to the U.S. military’s exacting standards but with a minimalist, monochromatic twist. It’s grown into an insider’s brand beloved by the most savvy travelers—like our co-founder, Andy Forch, and our design director, Nick Kemp.
