Monarch firmware update: JAWS-compatible native multiline braille support

We're excited to announce that the latest Monarch Version 1.3 firmware brings innovative Screen Reader multiline braille support. Monarch will soon be the first multiline braille display to be fully supported natively with JAWS, setting a new standard for accessibility and productivity. Experience the future of braille, now even more powerful, seamless, and intuitive.

JAWS-ready braille terminal – A game-changer in access!

Monarch’s new Terminal Mode is transforming how users experience digital braille. Developed in partnership with APH this feature allows the Monarch to function as a refreshable braille display when connected to an external device running a screen reader via USB (Bluetooth support coming soon).


For the first time ever, users can experience formatted and spatial content—like tables and spreadsheets—in multiline braille the way it was meant to be: clearly, efficiently, and intuitively. Terminal Mode supports multiline output, making reading data in rows and columns feel natural and accessible.

Currently compatible with the latest version of NVDA, support for JAWS will be available in the upcoming fall release. Those eager to try it early can contact Vispero to inquire about joining the JAWS beta testing group.

APH and HumanWare are actively collaborating with all major screen reader providers to ensure full compatibility and unlock the full power of tactile access for blind and low vision users.

New Application – Wing It!

A new, groundbreaking application for the Monarch and iOS devices empowers users to create tactile graphics on the fly. Together with the Wing It iOS application paired by Bluetooth, enables blind or sighted users to draw directly on the screen of their iOS device and in real-time, a tactile version of that drawing is generated on Monarch.

KeyMail – Easily distinguish between read and unread emails

With the recent addition of email support on Monarch, users have responded positively to the ability to view multiple emails across 10 lines. Now, we're taking it a step further by introducing a simple, intuitive way to distinguish between read and unread messages.

Just like folders in the File Manager, unread emails will now be marked using a full 8-dot braille cell, making it easier than ever to navigate your inbox with confidence.
