Hey there dabblers,
"Passive income" can become a skewed concept on the internet. Any content that you see claiming that you can make $100,000 in passive income from a blog, dropshipping store, YouTube, digital products, etc, isn't a TOTAL lie...but it's extremely misleading. Anyone who's making 6 figures completely passively from a side hustle took years to get to that spot and probably has a team of people helping them. Most of those income streams aren't even entirely passive unless you outsource duties like customer service, bookkeeping, maintenance, marketing, and anything else that keeps that income stream going. The only REAL way you're going to make money completely passively, is in the stock market. (if you want a beginner's crash course on investing, this article is a great free guide to start with.) That's why I call most "passive" side hustles, semi-passive side hustles. These are side hustles that you can build up slowly over time with minimal maintenance. I also chat about this a little bit in this podcast episode with Money With Katie and in this episode with Gabby Ianniello. For instance, if you're a freelancer or have a specialized profession, you can create a course or digital product like a workbook or template in your area of expertise and put it for sale on your website or a third-party online store provider. You only create the product once, but continue to get paid for that product for months and years down the line. This can help supplement your freelance income with semi-passive income, especially for times of the year when freelance work is a little slower. However, putting it up for sale on your site isn't going to be enough to sell it. You'll need to market it to your email list and social media. But some platforms do some of the marketing for you, like Etsy and Udemy. The ways I currently make passive/semi-passive income are:
