Hi everyone!
Mananging diabetes isn't just about managing blood glucose levels. It's also about managing emotions, and diabetes isn’t the same every day.
Have you ever noticed how differently you talk about your diabetes depending on how you're feeling? Some days feel easy to talk about. Other days feel impossible. And sometimes, all of it shows up in a single day
I like sharing my blood sugar levels, how I’m going with my sensor, how I’ve managed the ups and downs, and even sharing tips with others. Everything feels like it flows, and talking about my diabetes makes me feel connected to others, as if I’m doing something good for the community.
On these days, diabetes feels heavier than usual. When people ask how I am, I don’t feel like going into detail because I feel overwhelmed or discouraged, so I just say “I’m fine,” even though inside I’m dealing with something much more complicated. Diabetes can be emotionally draining, and on those days it’s hard to talk about it.
Anger arrives when I've done everything right and my diabetes decides not to cooperate. When a sensor fails at the worst possible moment. When a low blood glucose interrupts my plans. When I feel like I've spent the entire day working around diabetes instead of living my life. In those moments, I don’t want to talk about anything
If I’ve had severe hypoglycaemia or difficulty maintaining my levels, I feel insecure. I don’t want to talk about it because I’m afraid others won’t understand or will worry too much. Sometimes fear comes from the “what if something goes wrong?” thoughts, so it feels easier to avoid the topic and protect myself emotionally.
On days when I’m completely fed up with the diabetes routine, even talking about it feels like too much. I don’t want to explain how hard it’s been to control my levels or how I feel about it. In those moments, I just want to avoid the topic altogether because it feels unpleasant and overwhelming.
