A tidal island and site of early Viking invasion. Great, sweeping beaches of yellow sand watched over by towering castles. Cobbled market towns surrounded by idyllic countryside lined with drystone walls and dotted with farm animals. Quaint fishing villages that perch on the edge of the mighty North Sea. This is what you can expect from a trip to Northumberland, England’s northernmost county.
Walking here is magnificent, your mind, body, and soul equally rejuvenated by the fresh air that rolls in off the sea, the sound of the rumbling waves, and the warmth of the sunshine on your face as you wander quiet rural paths. |

Bamburgh Beach has been listed as the third-best, one-of-a-kind beach in the world for 2026 in Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards.
Northumberland’s shores also form part of the new King Charles III England Coast Path – the trail set to outline the entirety of England’s coastline. While the whole route is yet to be completed, the section from the Scottish border down to the Humber is already open to the public. |

| Alnwick |
|
| There’s a sense of magic about Alnwick, and not just for the castle’s connection to Harry Potter. The pretty streets are laced with history, the Percy Lion stands guard on the famous bridge over the Aln, and the blossoming Alnwick Garden paints a fairy-tale picture. |

| Seahouses |
|
| A popular fishing village, Seahouses epitomises that British-seaside-holiday feeling. There are plenty of small shops to browse, a wide beach to enjoy, and the harbour is a charming place to stop for fish and chips. You can also take a boat trip to the nearby Farne Islands, teeming with seals and puffins, from which two lighthouses beam at regular intervals. |

| Lindisfarne |
|
| Also known as ‘Holy Island’, Lindisfarne is a fascinating place – a mile out to sea and cut off twice a day by the tides, the island is known for its castle, the ruins of an ancient priory, its connection to St Cuthbert, a national nature reserve, and its Viking history. |
