New Arrivals - "Big Buck" Natural Deerskin Shirts & Upcycled Denim Cushions

For the first — and quite possibly only — time, our "Big Buck” western shirt is available in a natural, undyed deerskin.

Handmade by Simmons Bilt in Scotland, the hides used here come from wild European deer living in the hills and mountains of Germany and Austria. Unlike larger animals like cows or horses, deer rarely yield large, unblemished hides — particularly as these animals are known for their aggressive rutting behaviour. That’s why, for more recent runs of this shirt, we’ve refined the design to feature a three-panel back, allowing us to select more unscarred sections of leather while significantly reducing waste from these remarkable hides.

The leather is tanned at the world-renowned Kolesch tannery in Germany using a centuries-old process known as Sämischgerbung. This chemical-free process is highly labour-intensive and takes a full year from start to finish, but the result is worth the wait: an exceptionally soft leather that remains hard-wearing. This is not merely leather, but cultural heritage — much like traditional Japanese indigo dyeing — where each hide carries its own distinctive character.

While we take great care to match hides as closely as possible, and even with the updated design, natural variations from scarring and the traditional tanning process are inevitable. No two Big Bucks will ever be exactly alike, and that's where their appeal lies — an exercise in embracing beauty and perfection through imperfection.


This run represents the last of the Kolesch-tanned hides we have available, meaning the future of “The Big Buck” is uncertain. But one thing is for sure: if this is the end of the road for this legendary shirt, these natural models ensure it goes out in a blaze of glory.

Rather than going to waste, the fabric strips are carefully stitched together to create a one-of-a-kind cushion case that carries the character and durability of Iron Heart's toughest weaves.

Finished with a copper tack-button closure and supplied with a duck-feather pad, these cushions offer a unique upgrade to any couch, armchair, or denimhead's den.
