Near the end of his life, the greatest prophet in history begged God for a favor and was turned down.

"Let me cross over and see the good land that is beyond the Jordan" (Deuteronomy 3:25). Moses had led the nation out of Egypt, received the Torah at Sinai, and spoken with God face to face. He was standing in Moab, close enough to see the hills of the Land in front of him. God's answer was that he could climb the mountain and look at it, but he would not cross.

The refusal is one of the saddest moments in the Bible. But what exactly was Moses asking for?
