A New Chapter, We’re Expanding the World of KB

For years, we’ve been working on Kindred Black as an exploration of slower living through beauty — a world built around ritual, atmosphere, scent, and the emotional power of the objects we live with every day. Today marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for us, the first expansion of that perspective beyond the body and into the home.

For our new Scent as Talisman collection, we translated a few of our most enduring olfactive themes into atmosphere for the home. We chose these four essential scents because together they form a complete emotional and aromatic spectrum, each rooted in a distinct mood and family of aromatherapeutic botanicals. One ancient, resinous, and spiritual, built around sacred materials long burned in ritual and meditation. One green, earthy, and balancing, drawing on the calming effect of forests, moss, and living things. One is sensual and aphrodisiac, composed from flowers and woods historically associated with warmth, intimacy, and desire. And one is cool, herbaceous, and deeply restorative, created to quiet the mind and gently settle the nervous system into rest.

The collection is inspired by the ancient practice of scrying, the use of reflective surfaces, smoke, mirrors, crystal spheres, and flame to communicate with what lies beyond the visible world. Historically, glass was often seen as a mystical material, a portal between worlds capable of holding visions and hidden knowledge.

Flame has always been powerful, a light against darkness and a safeguard against what lurks in the shadows. For centuries, people have burned torches, oil lamps, and primitive candles made from animal fat, not only to illuminate their spaces but also to purify and protect their homes, and to offer devotion to gods and ancestors.

Over time, scent became an essential part of these rituals, the perfumed smoke a rising tribute to the unseen. Being immersed in scent for the body, we were drawn to the idea of home fragrance not simply as scenting a room, but as a kind of invisible presence capable of shifting emotion, memory, intimacy, and perception.

Hand blown, naturally scented candles form the foundation of the collection, accompanied by handmade incense, heirloom-quality snuffers, and sculptural glass accessories designed to expand the ethos and vision of Kindred Black beyond the vanity and into the home.
