The solstice isn’t until June 21, but Summer of Pizza starts now. No shade to hamburgers and hot dogs (OK, maybe a little), but pizza is a perfect summer food — especially when made outdoors. Yes, it's a great use of peak-season produce, but it's also a fun way to gather and cook with friends. All summer long, we’ll be sharing our best tips for pizza making, plus a handful of new recipes (BLT pizza, anyone?)
You don’t need to completely ditch your grill though, because Grilled Pizza and Grilled Garlic Knots await. Martin walks you through exactly how to grill your pizza in this video, so you won't have to worry about things like your dough seeping through or sticking to the grill grates.
If you are lucky enough to have a Gozney pizza oven, may I suggest a Detroit-style or Margherita pie? As a frequent pizza party guest (I’ll return the favor once I get my own backyard), I can attest that shaping, topping, and baking your own pizza on a balmy evening really does make it taste that much better, and doing it outdoors keeps the heat (and your guests!) out of the kitchen.
But if you’re newer to pizza making and don’t (yet) own a pizza oven, we just published this beginner’s guide to making pizza at home on the blog, which is loaded with tactical tips about the best tools, ingredients, and recipes to start with, including this one for The Easiest Pizza You’ll Ever Make. Our video archive is also deep with instructional videos for everything from using a pizza oven as a beginner to nailing a Neapolitan-style dough. Just remember to invite me over once you start slinging pies out of the oven like a pro!
