“Expect to fail. Plan to fail.”
When I heard those words, I could hardly believe it…
…especially because they came from the mouth of a former Navy SEAL!
Mike O’Dowd, a 9-year Navy veteran, was giving a talk at a conference I attended recently.
And here’s why his words took me off guard…
The USCCA is here to help responsible Americans prepare for everything they’ll encounter before, during, and after a violent self-defense incident.
We provide the education and training you need to be prepared for anything life throws your way.
That means preparing for a successful outcome … not a failure.
Thankfully, I took my mind off what Mike said just in time to catch the last part (which turned out to be the most important!)
The whole thing went like this…
Expect to fail.
Plan to fail.
DO NOT FAIL!
What he was saying was to be prepared, you need contingency planning.
You need to be prepared for what could go wrong – not for everything going right.
It lines up perfectly with that bit of wisdom called Murphy’s Law:
“Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.”
So how do you prepare for anything and EVERYTHING going wrong?
You take advantage of a USCCA Membership.
As a USCCA Member, you’ll have access to everything you need to prepare for every contingency…
…to keep you and your loved ones safe.
(Along with the peace of mind and confidence that goes with knowing you’re prepared.)

I’m glad I listened to Mike’s entire presentation because it made perfect sense.
Because if you’re EVER faced with a violent self-defense incident, you want a successful outcome.
And to do that, you need to…
“Expect to fail. Plan to fail. DO NOT FAIL!”
