On June 30, 2026 the Supreme Court agreed to hear two cases that could decide the future of the AR-15 and other similar rifles in America:
Viramontes v. Cook County (Illinois) and Grant v. Higgins (Connecticut) ask whether the Second Amendment protects ownership of AR-15-style rifles and other commonly owned semi-automatic firearms — the exact guns these states' "assault weapons" bans target.
The Court consolidated the two cases, and oral argument is expected this fall.
Here's why it matters — even if you don't own one of these rifles:
Virginia passed a new ban on certain semi-automatic sales this year.
Courts blocked it before it could even take effect — specifically because it raises nearly identical questions to the cases now in front of the Supreme Court.
The goal posts are moving … and these cases could have massive consequences for armed Americans.
As we watch this unfold, here's what I keep coming back to:
Whatever the Court eventually decides, it won't happen fast.
And even if — in an absolute worst case scenario — we see stricter gun laws roll out…
…they can’t ever prevent you from upgrading your skill-set.
Your mindset. Your decision-making under stress. Your physical skill when it counts.
That's YOURS 🫵 to build — regardless of how any case comes out.
And it's exactly what Wednesday's USCCA® session covers.
