A Century in the Kitchen
In 1926, the world was humming with change.
Radios were finding their way into living rooms. Silent film stars filled the silver screen. Jazz carried through dance halls. Cloche hats dipped low over bobbed hair, hemlines rose, and the little black dress became a symbol of modern style.
At the table, families gathered over simple, memorable foods: crisp salads, warm puddings, homemade cakes, roasts, stews, and the kind of recipes passed from one handwritten card to the next. Kitchens were changing too, with new appliances, new materials, and new ideas promising to make everyday cooking a little easier.
And in Rikon, Switzerland, a new chapter was beginning.
That year, Heinrich Kuhn acquired a small metalworking factory — the beginning of what would become Kuhn Rikon. From those early days, the goal was never simply to make cookware. It was to make cooking better: more reliable, more thoughtful, more joyful, and made to last.
One hundred years later, so much has changed.
Meals are faster. Kitchens are brighter. Recipes travel across the world in seconds. But some things remain beautifully familiar: the comfort of a simmering pot, the pleasure of cooking for someone you love, and the quiet confidence of a tool you can trust year after year.
That spirit still lives in our iconic Duromatic® Pressure Cooker line, crafted with Swiss precision and still made in the company factory in Rikon, Switzerland. It is a piece of Kuhn Rikon history that continues to earn its place in modern kitchens — not because it belongs to the past, but because it was built for the future.
For generations, Kuhn Rikon has remained family-owned, rooted in Switzerland, and guided by the same belief that inspired us at the beginning: the best kitchen tools are made with care, made with purpose, and made to be used again and again.
As we celebrate 100 years, we are not only looking back.
We are remembering every family meal, every holiday recipe, every first apartment kitchen, every Sunday soup, every carefully wrapped gift, and every moment when good cookware helped bring people together.
Thank you for being part of our story.
Here’s to 100 years of Kuhn Rikon and to the meals still to come.
