So here's how our Mix Deconstructions help you to "get inside the minds of the world's top DJs":
-
We identify the tracks being used - sometimes easier said than done! - and share links to buy from Beatport, iTunes etc (and if they're not available, we get or make substitutes for our students to use). This means you don't need to Shazam and go hunting for the tracks yourself. A lot of people give up right here...
-
We demonstrate the mix being done, by us - this is always in a controlled studio environment, on controllers and laptops. The idea is to show you that it IS possible to do it on YOUR gear
-
We break it down step by step - here we explain what is going on at each stage of the mix. We use annotations and multiple camera angles on the decks and mixer to make it all clear. This is when students typically get the "aha!" moment and realise that they CAN do it and actually, often they know a lot of it already!
-
We S-L-O-W it right down - a bit like a guitarist learning a guitar solo from a half-speed version, except this is done on video. The "slow-mos" and "follow along practice drills" help you to master the skills once you've understood them
-
We answer all our students' questions - guaranteed - Turns out that this is actually vital and it's a big reason why we have a team of nine full-timers here at Digital DJ Tips! If you're stuck, or you can't find a feature or function on your gear, we guarantee to coach you through it
OK so finally (and this bit is quite exciting), you get to submit YOUR ideas for Mix Deconstructions - there's nothing better than trying and failing, only to have us open it all out for you and show you exactly how to do it!

We believe that one of the best ways to learn anything is to copy, and one of the best ways to realise you have the potential to DJ as well as your heroes is to, well, copy your heroes! That's what Mix Deconstructions are all about.
Because the truth is that once you realise you CAN do this stuff, you start seeing tricks and techniques with your own music that were previously hidden from you.
Copying others actually helps you to develop your OWN DJing style.
Now, I have to tell you that there is a drawback: Once they realise that they CAN do this, it becomes a bit uncomfortable for some of our students, because they start asking themselves, "Hey, if I can do this thing that I kept telling myself I couldn't, what other little lies am I telling myself that are holding me back in my DJing?"
But frankly, that's what learning feels like. It's a good position to get yourself into. You'd take it, right? Right now, there are 50+ Mix Deconstructions - remember, these are special mini-courses, each deconstructing a single DJ's transition or skill - inside our flagship Digital DJ Lab mix training, community and coaching programme.

It's time you realised you CAN mix like your heroes!
