US Federal Appeals Court rules in favor of Tornado Cash

This week a U.S. federal appeals court ruled that Treasury Department sanctions against Tornado Cash are unlawful. The court found that the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) exceeded its authority by sanctioning Tornado Cash, declaring in its ruling that the privacy protocol’s smart contracts are, “not property because they are not capable of being owned.” The decision has been celebrated as a major win for crypto, with Tornado Cash’s TORN token surging nearly 400% following the ruling.

Crypto exchange suspends withdrawals after getting hacked for $1.7M

The crypto exchange XT.com suspended withdrawals on the platform this week after facing a suspected multimillion-dollar hack. The centralized, Seychelles-based cryptocurrency exchange suspended withdrawals on November 28th, sending an email citing “wallet upgrade and maintenance” as the reason for the stoppage. However, an hour after the exchange’s email, the Blockchain security firm PeckShield reported the hack on X , prompting XT.com to acknowledge an “abnormal transfer of platform wallet assets.” The exchange, which reportedly sees a daily trading volume of $3.4B, went on to assure users that their assets were safe, as the exchange “always maintains reserves 1.5x greater than user assets to ensure maximum security.”

Pump Science's Major Blunder: Apology After Fraud Token Spree

The Decentralized Science (DeSci) platform Pump Science admitted to accidentally exposing its private key on GitHub. The blunder allowed fraudsters to mint fake tokens like Urolithin and Cocaine under their Pump.fun profile. The platform has since renamed its profile to "dont_trust" and are working with Blockaid for security, with a full audit and security enhancements before any new token launches.

The trading volume that stablecoins have surged to this month, in line with overall market growth. The total stablecoin market capitalization also rose by 9.94% in November, reaching $190B to eclipse the previous all-time high of $188 billion in April 2022.

The amount that Tron blockchain founder Justin Sun spent on WLFI tokens from Donald Trump’s World Liberty Financial (WLF), making him the largest investor in the project to date. Only $20 million worth of WLFI had been sold before Sun’s buy, with the project sitting at 17% of its goal of $300M in token sales.

The amount of funds stolen in a memecoin scam perpetrated by a professional gamer, according to blockchain sleuth ZachXBT. The on-chain detective posted this thread alleging that a former pro-Fortnite player known as Serpent was involved in numerous memecoin scams on the viral platform Pump.Fun.
