First, have you heard this one before?
“Scientific research shows that creatine and HMB are great by themselves but are even greater when taken together.”

Well, for example, one popular seller of a creatine + HMB supplement claims muscle growth increases by 67% and strength by 32%, while another reports similar figures of 67% and 33% as well as “up to 25% more lean muscle mass” elsewhere (????).
If only.

BUT!
HMB is a legit supplement—in the right context.
Research shows HMB helps reduce muscle damage and muscle breakdown and may even support fat loss (limited data).
For example:
In one 2021 study, a placebo group lost 67% of their strength right after muscle-damaging exercise. (Hey, look—a real 67%.)
A few days later, the HMB group had roughly half the strength loss of the placebo group: 23–26% versus 44–49%.
And in a 2018 meta-analysis pooling 10 studies and 300+ people, HMB reliably lowered blood markers of muscle damage, especially when taken for 6 weeks or more.
That means HMB is especially useful if you need extra help recovering from intense training, or during periods when muscle loss is more likely—while cutting, training fasted, or when you’re injured and unable to exercise, for example.
