What Being Female-Founded Really Means ♀

Hi there,

Today is International Women’s Day, and like many of you, I’ve always assumed the beauty industry must be led by women. After all, women make up the vast majority of beauty customers. But the reality is surprisingly different:
  • Only about 29% of beauty CEOs are women.
  • Just 2% of venture capital funding goes to female founders.
  • And only around 15% of venture capital decision-makers are women.
Especially coming from the tech world, I'd often see women in leadership pushed toward roles that are stereotypically “female”...marketing, PR, customer service...while strategy, finance, operations, and investment remained dominated by men. At Lion Pose, when we say we’re proud to be a female-founded company, we mean something bigger than just Madhu and me.

Our funding has come primarily from women.
Our website was built by women.
Our formulas were developed by female chemists.
Our products are tested and backed by a team of women dermatologists.
Our finance and accounting team? Women.
Our supply chain and operations team? Women.

After all, when a company sells 95% of its products to women, it simply makes sense for women to be shaping every part of how that company is built.

Today we’re celebrating the women behind Lion Pose — and the women who support it every day. Thank you for being part of it.

Xo,
Nisha, Co-Founder & CEO
