A few days ago, I received a note from a longtime customer about a Lizzy James bracelet she's had for seven years.
She's going through a difficult time right now, and she shared that she's been wearing that bracelet every day—and that the little charms she chose all those years ago have taken on even more meaning for her today.
I won't share the personal details of her story, but her note really stayed with me.
We spend so much time here in the studio thinking about how a piece is made—the leather, the beads, the knots and all the little details that go into finishing it by hand.
There are real people behind all of that. Real hands cutting leather, stringing beads, tying knots and putting each piece together one at a time. It's slower than making things by the thousands, but there's a reason we've held onto it.
We want to make jewelry that's meant to stay with you.
We've never been very interested in chasing every trend or making something just because it's having a moment. We'd rather make pieces that you'll still want to reach for years from now—pieces that can change a little as you do, and maybe even come to mean more with time.
Her note reminded me that the most meaningful part of what we make often happens after it leaves us.
We package it up and send it out into the world. And from there, it becomes yours.
It gets worn through ordinary days and important ones. It travels with you. It can remind you of a person, a place or a moment—or sometimes simply be a little source of comfort when you need one.
Somewhere along the way, it stops being something we made here in the studio and becomes your jewelry, with your story attached to it.
And after reading her note, I was reminded that this is really why we do what we do.
