Based on the original 1840 Petzval lens, with upgraded features for modern mirrorless photographers and videographers, the Joseph Petzval Art Lenses are available in a full set of five focal lengths. Each lens boasts advanced bokeh control for enhanced video performance. With greater control over the signature Petzval look, comprising dreamy bokeh swirl with zero focus shift, the atmosphere of any scene can be adjusted while filming. This makes the lens a great choice for filming music videos, when versatility and dynamic framing are key!

Photographer and director Paolo Santambrogio used the Petzval Art Lenses to shoot a music video for Italian artist Paola Iezzi across the US. Often shooting at full aperture to maximize the swirl, the lenses really help to keep the viewer immersed and drawn in to every scene. What’s more, Paolo appreciated how the lenses were versatile and able to handle transitions between different scenes with ease. See more of his work and find out his insights in the Magazine.

“From a technical standpoint, they’re incredibly convenient. They’re all the same length and have focus rings that are compatible with focus motors. They’re also compact and lightweight, so they’re quick to swap out, even in extreme situations.”

Filmmaker and photographer Joel Byron, working closely with Reggae duo The Tribulizations, used the Joseph Petzval 55 f/1.7 Focus-coupled Bokeh Control Art Lens to capture the full mood of one of their gigs. The lens’ unique character helped Joel to capture the atmosphere and feeling, rather than simply documenting the performance and venue.

“The bokeh helped with that. It gave the images a kind of rhythm rather than a fixed point. It felt closer to how the night actually reads when you’re there.”
—Joel Byron
