Hi ,

Alighiero Boetti's auction record stands at $8,827,100, set in 2022. His top hammer has climbed from $2,520 in 1988 to that current mark. Each work is unique, but according to Masterworks' analysis, auction works by Boetti have appreciated in 100% of the 36 resales tracked in our dataset.

Oggi Sesto Giorno Quarto Mese Mille Nove 100 Ottanta Nove (1989) is an embroidered tapestry from Boetti's Arazzi series, in which individual letters are stitched into a grid of color to spell out the date the work began, in this case, April 6, 1989.

The Arazzi were embroidered by the same community of Afghan women who produced Boetti's better-known Mappa world maps, working first in Kabul and, after the 1979 Soviet invasion, from the refugee ateliers of Peshawar, Pakistan, where a 1989 work like this one would have been made. His embroidered works have been the most frequently represented at the top of his auction market.

Boetti is widely regarded as one of the central figures of Arte Povera, the Italian conceptual movement that emerged in the late 1960s. His dedicated room at the 1990 Venice Biennale was awarded a special prize, and the 2001 Biennale presented a posthumous tribute to his work.

His work is held in the permanent collections of Tate Modern, the Centre Pompidou, LACMA, and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. He is also a significant holding in the François Pinault Collection.

Oggi Sesto Giorno Quarto Mese Mille Nove 100 Ottanta Nove is available now with a total offering size of $583,000.
